Casa 400

Late November the Amsterdam-based Casa 400, for which Blitta developed a special unitised façade system with double frames, was awarded the prize for the best new hotel concept for 2009. This prize was put up by the hotel and catering industry's Venuez Hospitality and Style magazine.

The idea behind Casa 400 – a hotel during the summer period and student accommodation out of season - originates from Scandinavia. Four students, among them former politician Frits Bolkestein, introduced this concept in Amsterdam. The formula is still successful, but after fifty years of service it was time to replace the Casa building. Oeverzaaijer architectuur en stedenbouw was commissioned to design a new multifunctional building that accommodates students' and hotel rooms, a brasserie, thirteen conference rooms and a large student restaurant.

Blitta developed the façade in close cooperation with the principal and architect. This resulted in the charactistic deep aluminium decorative frames, that have both an aesthetic and a constructional function. To ensure high quality and fast installation many complex façade elements were prefabricated. Casa 400
